About
Jodie Hatton is a design researcher specialising in sustainable solutions and natural materials. With an MA in Sustainable, Regeneration and Environmental Design and a BA in Textile Design, she brings 15 years of professional experience creating bespoke design solutions for the hospitality sector, including a decade in carpet design and managerial positions. Her practice explores the intersection of heritage and innovation, seeking circular, regenerative approaches to material design. She has shared her expertise through talks and guest lectures at the V&A Museum, London Metropolitan University, UKSFA, and London Design Week, and is currently preparing to embark on a PhD to further develop her research into sustainable material futures.
Research Interests
My research explores sustainable and regenerative approaches to material design, with a particular focus on natural fibres and circular systems. I am interested in how heritage practices, such as woven textile traditions and Axminster carpet manufacture, can inform innovative strategies for sustainability in contemporary design. I am developing methodologies that bridge practice-based research with industry collaboration, aiming to create material solutions that are both environmentally responsible and culturally significant.
